Low city detail doesn’t look too bad until you scale it up an realise how much has been cut out at this low level of detail. Bumping up to the medium setting doesn’t require too much more computing power and gives a decent amount of extra detail. The boat in the water and the pier next to it are both bought on by improving the city detail. The ugly lump on the horizon still remains, but pushing up to high detail takes care of that.

It’s not a great improvement and the building still doesn’t look fantastic, but if you can spare the power from your GPU to deal with the increased textures then it makes sense to scale up.

Low quality settings gave the best performance, as we expected. We monitored the frames per second and played the game for a few minutes, swinging from rooftop to rooftop and generally having a laugh as we pounded villains and rescued children. Throughout our tests we had a rock solid framerate of 30 FPS, which fell to a low of 28 FPS just once and then for only a split second.

So, the game played fine, sure, but it looked awful too. The grass on street-level looked like something more commonly found in a used hankie and the buildings looked like they’d been built from ugly, brown Lego. We could pound wrong-doers and zip from one skyscraper to another, but we didn’t really want to, so we pushed the settings up a notch.
