Sum 41 has dubbed its forthcoming album "Chuck" in honor of the United Nations representative that facilitated the Canadian rock band's safe evacuation from the Democratic Republic of Congo in May. As previously reported, the band was in the volatile African nation filming the documentary "From the Front Lines" for aid agency War Child Canada. Though a cease-fire in the civil war had been declared, the situation rapidly disintegrated and fearing for their lives, band members Deryck Whibley, Dave Baksh, Cone and Stevo 32 huddled in a hotel bathroom. Their savior was Chuck Pelletier, who formulated and executed a plan of action that found the band ducking gunfire en route to an armored vehicle. "Chuck" is due Oct. 12 via Island Records. 毫不夸张的说，Sum41是21世纪新朋克浪潮中的弄潮儿，他们带有新金属气质的朋克乐，让人耳目一新。 Sum41于1999年在加拿大的安大略省成立，成员分别为：Derick Whibley （吉他，主唱）， Dave Baksh （吉他，主唱）， Cone McCaslin （贝斯）和Steve Jocz（鼓手）。乐队以他们在现场强有力的吉他和狂躁的节奏，立即在当地的音乐圈内名声大噪。99年年底，他们得到了Island唱片的赏识并与该公司签约。 2000年6月，乐队推出了他们的首张专集“Half Hour of Power ”。这张唱片的开场曲“Grab the Devil by the Horns and  Him up the Ass”就足以颠覆所有人的耳朵。在这首仅1分06秒的歌曲中，人们仿佛可以体验到旧日英国金属的味道，Iron Maiden（铁娘子）式的调子随处可见。在这首多少有点回顾意义的作品之后，专集马上被铺天盖地的流行朋克旋律所覆盖了。象“Make No Difference”和“Summer”这样的作品，都带着很悦耳的hook line，但也有的乐评人认为，这张专集并不出色，其中相当一部分作品多少带着早期Green Day和Blink182的影子，那样的作品在电台中是难以得到好的评价的。 此后，他们得到了与Mighty Mighty Bosstones，the Offspring和Blink 182等这样的乐队同台演出的机会。乐队的呼声也越来越高。 2001年，乐队带着在巡演中积累的丰富经验进棚录音。乐队找到了知名制作人Jerry Finn为他们制作第二张专集“All Killer No Filler”（Green Day的“Dookie”和Blink182的“Enema of the States”和“Take off your pants and jacket”均为Jerry Finn制作）。这张专集让组队还不到两年的Sum41一跃成了MTV台的大明星。热门单曲“Fat Lip”被人形容为Green Day 和Beastie Boys的混合体，并收录进了青春片“American Pie 2”电影原声带。
